Homeless Shelters Running Low on Coffee

We've been hearing for years now that food banks don't have enough to go around. We've been hearing about the ever growing numbers of elderly and disabled people who rely on food banks as their main source of nutrition, and also about the so-called "working poor," many of whom consist of families with small children. There really is never enough to feed everybody, despite the huge amounts of food that are wasted in North America today.

But imagine a world in which a soup kitchen or a homeless shelter can't even offer its clients a hot cup of coffee. Imagine having to ration this simple comfort, this simple human dignity because of a shortage.

Sadly, this has become a reality. Despite donations from big coffee producers, some charities are having to ration the coffee. Along with warm outdoor clothes and sleeping bags, coffee is now on the list of high priority donations in some areas.
